The Department of Geography is considered one of the old departments at the university. It was formed in 1948 as part of the Karakalpak State Pedagogical Institute at the Faculty of Natural Geography, as the Department of Geography and Chemistry, headed by Doctor of Chemical Sciences F.Z. Fisher. In 1953-1954 with the division of the Department of Geography and Chemistry, the Department of Geography was headed by the candidate of geographical sciences T. Nigay, in 1954-1963. the department was headed by associate professor Bem N.A., and in 1963-1976. and 1985-1992 The department was headed by Honored Teacher of Uzbekistan, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Professor Matmuratov J. From September 1976 to December 1981, the Department of Geography was headed by Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Bekbulatov A. In 1981-1985. The department was headed by Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Allambergenov T.K.
From the 1992-1993 school year, the department of geography was divided into two: the department of physical and economic geography.
Since 1996, the Department of Physical Geography has been headed by Assoc. Allambergenov T.Kh., then from 1996, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, P. Reymov. The Chair of Economic Geography until 1997 was headed by Associate Professor Umarov E.K.
In the 1997-1998 school year, the departments of physical and economic geography were merged and headed the department Assoc. From 1998 to 2009, he was in charge of Associate Professor P. Reimov. From 2009-2015. Head of Assoc. G. Khodjaeva, and since 2015 to the present, he is headed by candidate of geographical sciences, associate professor Yembergenov N.
Currently, the department has 13 teachers, including 2 doctors of science, 5 PhDs, associate professor, 2 senior lecturers, 4 assistants.
The faculty of the department of geography is actively involved in educational, educational, research and educational work.
The faculty has so far published over 80 scientific monographs of textbooks and teaching aids.
As a result of the research work, a comprehensive study of the ecological status of the Republic of Karakalpakstan will be conducted, as well as some recommendations are given on how to improve the ecological status of the region. In the works developed by the department of fundamental and applied research topics students take an active part bachelor and master degrees. Training workshops, trainings are conducted on the basis of foreign grants 530808-TEMPUS 1-2012-1-HU-TEMPUS-JDCR “GE-UZ”: Geoinformatics: Creating opportunities for sustainable development in Uzbekistan. As well as on the basis of the ERASMUS MUNDUS gSmart grant and the Training of Individuals, students and students of the department underwent advanced training and experience exchange at leading educational institutions in Austria, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. , Sweden, UK and others.
At the republican subject olympiads held among students of geography and hydrometeorology bachelors in the 2009-2010 academic year Khayrullaev Birodar took the second, in the 2012-2013 academic year Kushaev Ruslan took the first place, in the 2016-2017 academic year Abdullayev Tozabek took the second, in the 2017-2018 educational year Kalabaev Salauat took third place of honor. Students of Turdybekov Zamira , Akhmedov Zulhumor and Kalabaev Salauat are winners of the Berdakh state scholarship.
|Ballieva Ruza, PhD in Geography, DSc in History. Professor. She was born in the Kegeyli district on March 19, 1959. In 1982 she graduated at the Faculty of Geography of Tashkent State University. In 1994 she defended her PhD on the topic: “Traditional environmental management in connection with overcoming the ecological crisis in the Aral Sea region; in 2003 she got a DSc on the topic:“ Traditional environmental management and the Karakalpak ethnos”. Published more than 100 scientific articles, of which 2 monograph, 9 textbooks and 4 manuals. She has been working at the department since 1982.|
|Trudimambetov Izimbet Rakhmetovich, DSc. He was born on September 16, 1976 in the Khodjeyli district. In 1998 he graduated at the Karakalpak State University. In 2005 he defended his PhD on the topic “Medical-geographical analysis of the Amudarya delta and improving its sanitary situation,” and in 2016 his DSc on the topic: “Social and economic features of improving the nosogeographic situation of the Republic of Karakalpakstan”. Published more than 80 scientific articles and abstracts, of which 1 monograph, 3 textbooks. He has been working at the department since 1998. Nowadays, he is a vise-rector.|
|Allanazarov Keunimjay Jannazarovich, PhD. He was born on September 1, 1967 in the Kegeyli district. In 1993 he graduated at the Karakalpak State University. In 2002 he defended his PhD on the topic: “Assessment of the natural conditions and resources of the non-irrigated part of the Amudarya delta for the development of agricultural sectors.” Published more than 60 scientific articles and theses, 5 textbooks. He has been working at the department since 1993.|
|Khojaeva Gulya Ashirbaevna, PhD. She was born on March 8, 1968, in the Takhiatash city. In 1990 she graduated at the Nukus State University. In 1998 she defended her PhD on the topic: “The geodemographic situation and the regulation of the development of the population of Karakalpakstan.” She has published more than 90 scientific articles, including 1 monograph, 8 textbooks. She has been working at the department since 1990.|
